July summer program calendar for kids

July Programs 2025

Please take a look at the programs happening this month to see what needs registration.  All other programs are drop ins aimed at all ages–no need to register, but parents are requested to stay in the building with their child as there will be minimal supervision available.

TODDLER TIME-

This summer, we are not running a separate Toddler time, but encourage all parents with children to attend the regular storytime events on Wednesdays at 10am, or special storytimes at Waterside or the Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum. Please see our calendars for details.

STORYTIME-

Storytime events happening at the library, at the Museum gardens and at Waterside are aimed at children aged 2-5, but all ages are welcome. We sing songs, get the wiggles out, and do some fun early literacy activities.

  • For storytimes at the Museum gardens, please meet us at 267 Edmund Street at the garden gates. Dress accordingly and bring some water. If it is very warm, we’ll have storytime at the library instead–please watch our social media channels for updates.
  • If you are attending Storytime at Waterside, we ask that you stay home if you or your child are feeling unwell as the seniors are very vulnerable.

OUTDOOR SESSIONS-

We hope to have a number of outdoor sessions, weather permitting. For all events, please dress accordingly and wear sunscreen. Please send your child with water–we also have a water bottle refilling station but we do NOT provide cups for drinking.  If the weather is too rainy or hot, we may move the event inside the library.

SPECIAL EVENTS-

There are a few special events happening this summer. In July:

Crochet Series for Beginners: We’ll have 5 fun sessions for teens who want to learn how to crochet this summer. The best thing is that the sessions are FREE, all supplies will be provided, and we will be working toward creating some wonderful items to donate to Lanark County Interval House at the end of the summer.

  • Each session will have room for 15 registrations, but if you have your own crochet tools, we’d be happy to have you drop in. You can register for these sessions below:
    • Crochet 101 – “Learn the Basics” – – Thursday, July 3, 1-2pm.
    • Crochet a Dishcoth – Thursday, July 10, 1-2pm.
    • Don’t be a Granny Square – Thursday, July 17, 1-2pm.
    • Catch Up – Thursday, July 24, 1-2pm
    • Let’s Put it All Together – Thursday, July 31, 1-2pm.

Queer Sphere Crafting Circle: Teens are invited to drop in to any of these fun, safe and welcoming sessions for teens aged 13+. Each session will include a fun craft, a bit of socializing, and lots of new friends. Feel free to bring along your own craft if you’re working on something in particular, but we’ll provide all the supplies for the crafts we’re preparing. No registration is required!

  • Wednesday, July 9, 2-3:30pm — “Terrific Tie Dye”
  • Wednesday, July 23, 2-3:30pm – “Dino Terrariums”

Museum Visit for Kids:  Join us at the Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum  on Wednesday, July 23 at 1pm for a fun tour of their summer exhibit “Findlay Foundry: Moulding Our Community”. This will be a very kid-friendly activity but parents are asked to stay for the tour.  The Museum is located at 267 Edmund Street in Carleton Place. Please note: you will have to provide transportation to and from the museum as the library staff will not be able to drive anyone.

Storytime in the Museum Gardens:  Join us for these fun storytime sessions at 267 Edmund Street. We’ll meet in the gardens to the side of the Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum and listen to books, sing songs, and have fun. This is the same type of session for 2-5 year olds that we have at the library, but it’s such a beautiful setting, we’re looking forward to taking it all outdoors. Please dress accordingly and meet us in the gardens, weather permitting. *If it is raining, Storytime will be at the library instead.

  • Friday, July 11 – 10am
  • Friday, August 1 – 10am
  • Friday, August 15 – 10am

Storytime at Waterside:  Please meet us in the front lobby for Storytime at 10am. There is plenty of parking for everyone and the space is accessible.  This will be a fun storytime session for kids aged 2-5—and the seniors will also sit in and take part. Many of our senior friends there do not have little ones come to visit, so they enjoy hearing all the giggles and chatting with parents after. There is no registration for these sessions, but please be on time.

  • Thursday, July 31 – 10am
  • Thursday, August 28 – 10am

Phone-tography 101: An Introduction to taking better photos with your Phone: Join us for this fun summer session where you’ll learn some fun techniques to take better photos with your phone. Open to adults only this summer-please register by calling 257-2702, or email Julia at jhawkins@carletonplace.ca to get on the list. Light refreshments will be served.

READING BUDDY SESSIONS for all! –

We’re offering lots of fun Reading Buddy session spaces for kids of all ages, even if they’re not registered for the literacy tutoring sessions.  Reading Buddy sessions require registration at the front desk and will happen starting the Monday of each Reading Buddy Week. Kids will get a 30 minute reading session with a tutor, one on one, where they’ll gain a bit of confidence reading out loud and enjoy some literacy activities during the session. There is no fee for this service, but kids are asked to bring a book they are currently reading. Parents must stay in the library for the duration of the session.
