What are Interlibrary Loans?
Interlibrary Loan allows library members to access books not held at their local library through a mutual borrowing agreement between various Ontario public libraries. Just request your book and a library that has an available copy will ship it to us for you to pick up and borrow with your CPPL card.
There is no cost associated with this service.
How do I request an Interlibrary Loan?
- To make a request you will need your library card number and the title or subject of the material you are looking for.
- Ensure the Carleton Place Public Library does not already own the material you are looking for by searching the catalogue.
There are three ways you may request an interlibrary loan at the Carleton Place Public Library:
- In person at the library: ask library staff for a pink Interlibrary Loan request form.
- To have staff place a request for you, fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request form or call 613-257-2702.
- **NEW!** Place a request online using the Provincial Interlibrary Loan portal, Discovery to Delivery (D2D).

Interlibrary loans are sourced from public libraries across Ontario, and are shipped via Canada Post. While it is often sooner, it can take up to 4 weeks for your item to arrive.
Please note that once a request has been placed, the Carleton Place Public Library has no control over response times. While some items will arrive within a few days, others may take three weeks or more. Once items arrive, patrons will be notified according to their account preferences and will have five days to collect the item. Items not picked up within the five days are returned to the lending library.
The loan period for most Interlibrary Loans is three weeks from the day of checkout. There is no option for renewal.
Each lending library has different loan policies, making the renewal of materials challenging. Please return interlibrary loan materials by their due date to avoid late fines.
In the case of lost or damaged materials, the lending library will bill the Carleton Place Public Library for the item. The borrower is responsible for any fines or fees received from the lending library.
